Why you should consider intermittent fasting?

Why you should consider intermittent fasting?
We are big fans of intermittent fasting. We first heard about it on a BBC documentary presented by Dr Michael Mosley who is a proponent of the  5:2 diet.
On a personal level we have used it to not only lose weight but also help lift our moods and maintain that weight.
There are many benefits to intermittent fasting including:
1. Losing weight and belly fat
2. Increases lean muscle mass and definition
3. Help cells to regenerate whilst also removing waste material from cells
4. People who IF have lower rates of brain degenrative diseases such as dementia and parkinsons
Intermittent fasting is simply an eating habit pattern that cycles between periods of fasting and eating. There are a number of different patterns and we would recommend you choose one that suits you best. involve daily 16 hour fasts and 8 Hour eating window (16:8), or fasting for 24 hours, twice per week (5:2)

A recent research study by Harvard Medical looked at the basic biology involved in our cells’ decreased ability to process energy over time. This in turn causes aging and age-related diseases. The Harvard study was published in the journal Cell Metabolism and reveals that intermittent fasting slows down the aging process. So if you want to live a longer and healthier life then maybe it’s time you skipped those breakfasts.

Aside from the physical benefits we have found with IF, there have been many studies that show the positive impact it has on your brain.

Mark Mattson, the current Chief of the Laboratory of Neuroscience at the National Institute on Aging, explains more in the TED talk below.

If you are interested in starting an IF then we would highly recommend Dr Michael Moseley’s The Fast Diet Book. It gives you an overview and also gives you some recipes too.Link below.
